Architect Francesco Marrone has transformed a 120 sqm apartment in the heart of Ostuni into a luxury retreat. The apartment, located in a historic building, combines sixteenth-century architectural elements with contemporary design.
The interiors include an entrance living room, a living area, a dining room, a kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The spaces are characterized by star vaults and neoclassical decorations.
Historically, bathrooms appear very late in typical Ostuni homes (20th century), necessitating an architectural solution that, without compromising the ceiling movement, lightly addresses this requirement. The bathroom thus becomes a treasure trove with precious details, such as the Rexa marble washbasin.
"The project originates precisely from this bathroom. The client desired to have the bathroom within the bedroom, and the only possibility was to create a bathroom in a vaulted room. To avoid building a wall that would have marred the vault, the bathroom was conceived as a glass case to be inserted into the room as if it were a piece of furniture. The floor-standing Emperador Marble sink visible through the transparent glass wall serves as a decorative element in the passage space leading to the sleeping area," says architect Marrone.
